Dee Gordon flies around the bases for inside-the-park home run
Saying Miami Marlins infielder Dee Gordon is fast is like saying water is wet. It’s his most defining quality, and everyone knows it.
That’s why it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Gordon was responsible for the first inside-the-park home run at Marlins Park. The hit came in the second inning of Tuesday’s game.

With two men on base, and Ryan Vogelsong on the mound, Gordon ripped an 84 mph changeup to the right center gap. Since Gordon is known as more of a slap hitter, the outfielders were playing fairly close to the infield.
This allowed Gordon to turn on the jets. Right fielder Gregor Blanco would reach the ball first, and either slightly misplayed it, or tried to flip it to center fielder Angel Pagan.
By the time Pagan grabbed the ball, Gordon was already rounding third base. The Giants attempted to throw Gordon out at home, but didn’t come close.
Statcast has yet to produce an actual time for Gordon making his way around the bases, but it looks like it took between 12-13 seconds based on the video. That is pretty impressive.

Famously, Dee’s father, Tom, was nicknamed “Flash.” Dee uses the name on Twitter, but we’re starting to think it’s time he assumed that moniker on the field.
