Cody Anderson is off to an incredible start to his big-league career. On June 21, he threw 7 2/3 innings of shutout ball in his MLB debut and Monday he’s working on a perfect game through six innings against the Rays.

That’s right, Anderson has weaved through the Tampa Bay batting order twice without having allowed a single baserunner. He’s done so by inducing weak contact, as he’s only struck out one hitter. Not surprisingly, given that Anderson is pitching to contact, he’s been very efficient with just 70 pitches. He’s gone as high as 102 this season in the minors, though the 7 2/3 inning outing in the majors is his longest outing by innings in 2015.
There have only been 23 perfect games in modern MLB history. Two of them came from Indians pitchers. Addie Joss spun one in 1908 and Len Barker pulled off the feat in 1981.
Major League Baseball hasn’t seen a perfect game since 2012, when there were three. Max Scherzer came within one out earlier this season, hitting Jose Tabata with a pitch to ruin it with two outs in the ninth.
