LSU football picks up Key enrollee – NOLA.com
Arden Key has finally unlocked the NCAA clearinghouse process.
The four-star defensive end from Lithonia, Georgia, one of the prized catches in LSU’s 2015 recruiting class, has been greenlighted to enroll at the start of the fall semester, according to LSU football sports information director Michael Bonnette.
Key wanted to enter summer school with 17 other signees two weeks ago, but was denied. Four signees enrolled in January.
The 6-foot-6, 230-pound Key had 35½ sacks during his high school career. He was ranked as the nation’s No. 3 weak side defensive end and the No. 24 overall prospect by ESPN.
Two other signees, defensive back Jeremy Cutrer and offensive tackle Chidi Valentine-Okeke, are still awaiting approval from the NCAA clearinghouse.
Cutrer, a 6-3 safety from Kentwood, is a junior transferring from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College where was listed as the nation’s No. 2 junior college safety. Last season, he had 44 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, nine pass break-ups and one forced fumble. He originally committed to LSU in 2013 but enrolled at MGCCC.
Valentine-Okeke, a 6-6, 315-pound Nigerian native, did not begin playing football until 2013 when he arrived in the United States. Yet because of his footwork and quickness, he was rated as a five-star prospect by 247 Sports and was ranked No. 2 offensive tackle nationally and the No. 22 overall prospect.
Bonnette confirmed that Brandon Martin, one of four wide receivers in the Tigers’ recruiting class, has already enrolled at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
Martin, a 6-4, 214-pound three-star rated recruit, had 1,000 receiving yards and 26 TDs last season at Dallas’ Prime Prep Academy.
