Estrada loses perfect-game bid in eighth inning
For the second time in as many starts, Blue Jays right-hander Marco Estrada brushed up against history. In Wednesday’s game against the Rays at Tropicana Field, Estrada was perfect through 7 1/3 innings before allowing an infield single to Logan Forsythe — a soft roller to third baseman Josh Donaldson that Forsythe barely beat out. The Blue Jays challenged Joe West’s out call, but it was held up on review.
This gem of course comes mere days after Estrada took a no-hit bid into the eighth against the Orioles. After 80 career starts, though, Estrada has yet to record a complete game.
Estrada, 31, was acquired from the Brewers last November in exchange for Adam Lind. On the season, he’s pitched to an ERA of 3.48 and struck out 62 batters against 23 walks in 72 1/3 innings.
Estrada becomes the first Jay since Dave Stieb in 1988 to go at least 6.0 innings without allowing a hit in back-to-back starts.
Marco Estrada is once again pitching very well. (USATSI)
