Fan dad makes great catch while holding baby, avoids ejection
The Chicago Cubs don’t have a great track record when it comes to fan interference. Until the club wins a World Series, the constant reminder of Steve Bartman will always linger.

For at least a few seconds Tuesday, Bartman received a bit of a reprieve.
First off, that’s a great catch. And our fan dad deserves a lot of credit for making the play, particularly while holding his child.
Upon further review, however, the play may have hurt his team more than it helped. The umpires would eventually rule that he had interfered with the play, awarding the Dodgers the out.
As you might imagine, the club was pretty happy about that development.
While most fans are ejected for this type of thing, it appears our fan dad was allowed to stay at the park despite his interference. That hasn’t stopped some from voicing their opinion on the matter.
Broadcaster Orel Hershiser was also unhappy that the fan was allowed to stay in the park.
The rules are the rules, we suppose, though it was a pretty impressive snag. And, in the end, the Dodgers managed to benefit.

Fans shouldn’t interfere on the field of play, but things wound up pretty harmless in this scenario. This fan not only has a great story, but gets to enjoy the rest of the game from excellent seats. Finally, a Cubs’ fan is able to enjoy a happy ending.
