Byron Buxton shows off sparkling skills at the plate and in the field
getting the call to join the Minnesota Twins just over a week ago.
Byron Buxton has gotten off to a bit of a slow start sinceAt times he has looked overmatched at the plate, but he flashed his sizeable skill set during Minnesota’s 13-2 win over the White Sox on Monday and teased Twins fans with a glimpse of what’s to come.
Hitting in the leadoff spot for the first time in the big-leagues, Buxton came out of the gates hot. He smashed a ball the other way to right field off White Sox left-hander John Danks and raced into second base for a double.

A couple innings later he showed off his defensive prowess by cutting down Melky Cabrera at home plate with a bullet throw from center field. MLB’s Statcast clocked Buxton’s throw at 93.2 mph.
Both plays highlighted what we already knew: it might take some time for the 21-year-old Buxton to put it all together but he definitely has the tools to succeed and eventually star in the majors.
Buxton finished the game 3-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored and two outfield assists. That’s what we calling stuffing the stat sheet.
A few more games like that and his .200 bating average and .250 OBP will rise rapidly. These early struggles aren’t anything to be overly worried about. It takes time to settle in and Buxton’s next game will only be his 10th. If Monday was any indication though, he’s going through that process just like he how plays on the field: super fast.
