MLB updates: Latest from Sunday's games
Happy Father’s Day, baseball fans!
As a gift to all of us, we get a full slate of baseball games, with all but one coming during the day. That’s fun.
We have an excellent Sunday night game on tap that will see a leader in the NL West emerge, as the Giants are just a half-game behind the host Dodgers. The previously-struggling Mariners are looking for a sweep of the first-place Astros. The Tigers attempt to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Yankees and their fifth-straight loss while the Yankees look for their fifth straight win.
Speaking of which, the Rays are going for their fifth straight win and are now tied with the Astros for the best record in the AL. In order to do so, Alex Colome needs to bounce back from an awful outing last time out, in which he allowed six runs on seven hits in just two innings of work. His counterpart will be Cody Anderson of the Indians, who is making his MLB debut. In 13 minor-league starts (10 in Double-A, three in Triple-A), he was 4-3 with a 1.89 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 54 strikeouts in 71 1/3 innings.
Can the Rays stay hot? (USATSI)
