Deja vu: Phillies haunted by a squirrel again against Cardinals
The Philadelphia Phillies have undergone quite a few changes since 2011, but that doesn’t mean they’ve escaped the wrath of the squirrel.
When Philadelphia was thwarted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2011 NLDS, the series turned when a squirrel scampered onto the field at Busch Stadium. The “Rally Squirrel” became the Cardinals’ unofficial postseason mascot as they went on to win the World Series.
The squirrels clearly aren’t done with the Phillies though. Now they’re coming after them at their own stadium.
The Phillies hosted the Cardinals at Citizens Bank Park on Friday night when a squirrel climbed across the netting behind home plate and dropped into the Phillies dugout, sending players running in fear. Bold move.

And of course, as was the case four seasons ago, the Cardinals came out on top, crushing Philadelphia 12-4.
The squirrel’s presence Friday just added insult to injury. Since that NLDS loss in 2011, the Phillies have fallen from perennial contender to being the worst team in baseball at 23-46 this season. Which leaves us to wonder what the heck the Phillies did to upset the squirrel community in this way.
