Toronto outlasted Baltimore 5-4 last night. They are 3-0 on their homestand and 14-2 in their past 16 games. They have won 9-straight games at home and have a 23-12 home record in 2015. The Orioles are 1-2 on their road trip but 7-3 in their past 10 games. They are 10-19 away from home this season.
These two teams have seen a lot of each other already this year and the Blue Jays have a 7-3 advantage in the last 10 contests between these two AL East rivals.
This will be Gausman’s first start this season. He was just activated off of the disabled list and has made 8 relief appearances so far this year.
Buehrle received a no decision in his last start, a 4-3 loss to the Mets. He allowed 1 ER in 7 innings for his 8th Q start of the campaign.
Several Baltimore hitters have had their way with Buehrle over the years. OF Adam Jones is 16-39 (.410) with 2 HRs and 7 RBIs vs. the veteran lefty while OF Delmon Young is 22-59 (.373) with 4 HRs and 9 RBIs. Of the 12 hitters on the Orioles who have faced Buehrle before, 10 of 12 of them have a career BA of .273 or better and 7 of them have taken the lefty deep. However, he has not allowed a stolen base to any Baltimore hitter.
No one on the Blue Jays has faced Gausman more than 8 times. SS Jose Reyes is 3-7 (.429) with an RBI while 3B Josh Donaldson is 2-7 (.286) with an RBI. The 7 other players to have faced Gausman before are a collective 1-24 (.042) against him.

Historical batter versus pitcher numbers would easily favor Orioles’ starter Kevin Gausman over Jays’ starter Mark Buerhle, but we’re going to go with the current form. Buerhle has recorded a Q starts in three straight games and this season has done likewise against the Orioles getting the Q start in all three of his outings against Baltimore. Gausman is making his first start of 2015 in the big leagues after starting the season in the bullpen. He went on the DL in early May with a shoulder issue and has had a rehab stint in the minors where he didn’t look particularly good. We’ll ride the hot team from the north.
