Badgers football: UW picks up commitment from three-star linebacker – Madison.com
Griffin Grady fell in love with the University of Wisconsin during a visit back in April.
His unofficial trip to Madison on Wednesday was simply to solidify his first impressions.
This time, the three-star linebacker from Dublin, Ohio, committed to the Badgers’ coaching staff before leaving.
“I had a pretty good idea (I would commit),” he said. “I had been feeling pretty strongly about the Badgers for a while, but I wanted to make sure after my last visit that it wasn’t just emotions and caught up in the moment.
“I felt that I was ready. I wasn’t going to keep delaying the inevitable. Wisconsin is a great fit for me.”
UW coach Paul Chryst and offensive coordinator Joe Rudolph offered Grady when the two coached at Pittsburgh last season. His Badgers offer came during his visit in April.
Grady became the 10th member of UW’s 2016 recruiting class and continued a run of recent commitments for the Badgers.
He’s the sixth prep player to pick UW since May 30, when another prospect from Ohio, Pickerington Central safety Seth Currens, chose to continue his career in Madison.
Grady said he will play outside linebacker at UW, and although the Badgers’ system differs greatly from what he’s used to, he believes after speaking with defensive coordinator Dave Aranda that he will “fit that mold real well.”
His reasons for picking UW also extended beyond the playing field.
“I thought Wisconsin was a great balance between football, academics and campus life,” he said. “I met a few of the guys that go there, and I feel like they’re bringing in guys that I’ll be able to mesh with pretty quickly. And I think that the school in general is just a perfect fit for me.”
