Jim McElwain gives $5,000 to help former CSU player
Florida coach Jim McElwain donated $5,000 to help one of his former players at Colorado State.
Isa Edwards, the wife of former CSU defensive tackle Eli Edwards, died on June 6 because of lupus. Eli and their daughter, Ellyse are in New Zealand and unable to fly back to the United States for a funeral for Isa.
The family set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for funeral expenses. Two former teammates of Edwards also hosted a barbecue at the Fort Collins City Park on Saturday to raise money.
Please understand that it’s been very hard to thank everyone who sends their condolences, but we are forever grateful. I fell in love with Isa because of her personality: filled with so much love, compassion and care for others, but I wasn’t aware of how much that same personality affected so many of you. I know everyone has been liking her pictures and reading her blogs. If you haven’t, please take the time to do so because the most important message she shared was, “Long after I’m gone, I just want to be remembered”. Watching and reading all of your memories with Isa has made me realize how special she is, that much more. It kills me to see that she will never physically see how many people She has touched, but spiritually, I know her “prayer phone” is filled with all of your messages.
The LLC of McElwain and his wife are listed as the biggest donors.
Coach Mac, Karen and Family are so saddened by the news. Our hearts and prayers are with you.
The page has received over $20,400 in donations since it was started on June 8.
Edwards transferred to Colorado State before the 2012 season from Cerritos College. He was a two-year starter for the Rams and had 43 total tackles. Ellyse Edwards was born prior to the 2013 season.
McElwain was the coach at Colorado State for three seasons before he was hired at Florida in December.
