Here are a few visuals of how firm and fast Chambers Bay is
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. — If you’ve been intently reading and watching the U.S. Open pre-tournament coverage, there’s a good chance you’ve seen the words “firm” and “fast” a lot. It’s for good reason: They’re the words the players are using most to describe this new major venue.
However, it’s hard to explain just how firm and fast this place is just a day before the championship starts. So, let us offer a few player-shot videos that demonstrate it very nicely.
University of Georgia player Lee McCoy, who earned his way in via sectional qualifier, shot this video on Tuesday to show how firm the fairways already are.
Yup, they’re so firm that McCovy wouldn’t have trouble finishing off the Cleveland Cavs with a monster jam at the end of the video.
Then there’s how fast the greens will be. As if the dead-looking – but not actually dead – grass wasn’t enough of an indicator of speed, Alex Noren showed off how even flat-ish putts will run out this week.
It’s worth repeating two things: This isn’t Scotland and this isn’t the Open Championship, and this could get ugly.
