Stanley Cup Final handshake line brings hugs, happiness and sadness (Video)
Ah, the handshake line at the completion of an NHL series. One of the greatest traditions in all of sports. Oh shoot, I now have to throw a buck into the Puck Daddy cliché jar. Sigh.
What is Jonathan Toews saying to Steven Stamkos in the above photo? I’m thinking something along the lines of … ‘FIRE IT IN THERE! WADOOM!!!!’
Watch the entire video here:
Much was made of Kimmo Timonen and his last game and his final shot at a Stanley Cup. But we saw little of Brenden Morrow, another veteran near the end of his career. You see him a little on the line but not much for the losing Tampa player. But hey, there were mega-hugs for Timonen!
Now time for the gif commentary…
It’s clear Toews has the whole captain’s handshake of the vanquished down. Complete with chest tap of Stamkos.
I hear him saying, ‘Chin up there bud. You’ll win one some day … well, not as long as I play in Chicago with Patrick Kane and Duncan Keith … muahaha.’
Next … the goaltenders handshake. This one wasn’t super memorable really. Tampa’s Ben Bishop showed incredible etiquette with the shoulder tap. Also, Crawford’s beard is so bushy, it probably has a bird living in it right now.
The pre-handshake embrace between Toews and Kane. They probably did something similar in 2010 … many darker and thicker strands of hair ago. Tough to believe they’re just 27 and 26 respectively.
And Joel Quenneville happily ruined his suit with all those sweaty mumpsy (shhhh) hockey players.
Ah, the handshake line, it’s one of the elements we love about the Stanley Cup Final. You see so many human emotions displayed in just a couple of minutes.
