Live updates: Tuesday's all-interleague action
Welcome to a nice little Tuesday in Major League Baseball action. Due to the split interleague series this week, it’s getaway day, so we have several games in the afternoon, which is always a great thing.
Lots of intrigue both on and off the diamond, as there’s this pesky little FBI investigation going on. In here, we’re sticking to on-field, though. Several series stick out.
How about the Pirates going for their sixth straight win in the middle of an extended hot streak — they’ve gone 18-5 since May 21. They are facing the White Sox, who continue to struggle and have now lost four straight.
The entire AL East — well, save for the Red Sox — is worth watching, just because there are four teams within three games.
And how about the Arizona Diamondbacks? An afterthought in the NL West heading into the season, a win in Anaheim Tuesday evens them up at .500 (32-32) and would mark the fifth straight victory.

Anywho, welcome to The Eye. It’s here that on a daily basis we build this thing throughout the day in hopes of giving you a one-stop destination to see everything that happened. Come back Wednesday morning for the full thing or stop back several times Tuesday. Your choice. Let’s get started.
Today’s MLB action (all times ET) (Full scoreboard)
Cardinals 3, Twins 2 (Box score): The Cardinals won their fifth straight game, as the St. Louis bullpen worked 2 2/3 scoreless behind a quality start by Michael Wacha. Matt Carpenter went 2-for-3 with a walk. Yadier Molina notched a double and a walk and threw out Byron Buxton on an attempted steal of second. The Twins, meantime, lost for the seventh time in eight games. The Cardinals moved to 26-7 at home.
Astros 8, Rockies 5 (Box score): Luis Valbuena homered twice and Hank Conger added one of this own. In a related matter, the Astros now lead the majors with 91 home runs as a team. The Houston bullpen worked a combined 4 1/3 scoreless, and the Astros this season are now 6-1 against the NL West. Carlos Gonzalez homered for the Rockies.
Athletics 6, Padres 5 (Box score): Ben Zobrist homered, and Billy Burns contributed two walks, a triple and a stolen base. The Padres lost their third game in a row — each loss coming with a different manager. In said losing effort, Matt Kemp hit his third homer of the season. Even after Tuesday’s win, the A’s are still just 5-18 this season in games decided by one run. Craig Kimbrel took the loss.
Giants 6, Mariners 2 (Box score): The Giants ended a nine-game home losing streak, thanks in part to 3 1/3 perfect innings from the bullpen. Tim Lincecum allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings, and Matt Duffy had three hits, including his sixth homer of the season. The Mariners dropped to 5-10 in June despite a quality start from J.A. Happ and a home run from Brad Miller.
Red Sox 9, Braves 4 (Box score): The Red Sox snapped a seven-game losing streak. The big story? Brock Holt’s efforts at the plate …

Boston starter Wade Miley pitched solidly, but the Sox won despite the fact that Koji Uehara gave up two runs on four hits in 1.0 inning of work. Mookie Betts went 3-for-5, and for the Braves Julio Teheran saw his 2015 ERA rise to 5.07.
Milestone Watch
Longest active hit streak: It’s Cubs rookie Kris Bryant at 11.
A-Rod watch: He’s at 2,995 hits.
