After rainout, Anthony Rizzo and Jason Kipnis celebrate Stanley Cup win in Chicago
When Monday’s game between the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians was postponed because of rain in Chicago, that was good news for baseball fans who wanted to watch Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Turns out it was good news for Anthony Rizzo and Jason Kipnis too.
Both stars were excited to put baseball on the back burner for a night and watch the Blackhawks close out their first championship at home since 1938. Rizzo, the Cubs first baseman, scored last-minute tickets to the game, getting recognized by the Blackhawks on Twitter, then sending out a pic of the on-ice celebration like any smartphone-having fan would.
Kipnis, the Indians second baseman, is from Northbrook, Ill., about 25 miles from Chicago. So his trip home was extra special too. It didn’t look like he got into the game, but he partied on the street with the locals after the Blackhawks’ win.
Here’s another great shot of Blackhawks fans partying outside of Wrigley Field:

As it turns out, the Cubs/Indians game wasn’t the only thing delayed because of Chicago weather. The actual Stanley Cup arrived late to the celebration. Oops. Can’t make that one up in August.
