UConn TE Sean McQuillan no longer with team after April arrest
Sean McQuillan was arrested for his involvement in a physical altercation with his roommate, UConn head coach Bob Diaco announced that the senior tight end is no longer a member of the football team.
Nearly two months afterAccording to the Hartford Courant, McQuillan, who is facing felony assault charges, was “in the midst of appealing a disciplinary action by the school.” Diaco said Friday that the final ruling was made.
“We’re without Sean McQuillan,” Diaco said. “I just got that word. Sean will be a graduate of the university and move on.”
McQuillan, who started 11 games and had 16 catches for 158 yards and a score in 2014, was set to be a captain this upcoming season. Diaco was complimentary of McQuillian’s leadsership and said he’s “disappointed” McQuillan won’t be with the team moving forward.
“I wish him well and he will do well. He accomplished everything he needed to do to graduate,” Diaco said.
The charges stemmed from an April incident in which McQuillan “assaulted another person resulting in significant facial injuries to the victim,” according to police.
Per the Courant, McQuillan’s case “has been continued to July.”
Overall in his career, McQuillan registered 41 catches for 354 yards and two touchdowns.
