Fan struck by bat at Fenway is out of hospital
Last Friday, 44-year-old Tonya Carpenter was severely injured when a shard from the bat of Brett Lawrie flew into the seats during the Athletics-Red Sox game at Fenway Park. Shortly therefter, her condition was listed as serious. Since then, though, she’s been improving, and on Friday she was released from the hospital.
Dr. Efstathios Papavassiliou, a neurosurgeon at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, said this in a statement released Friday:
“Ms. Carpenter’s recovery so far has been excellent. She’s getting stronger every day, and we’ve seen tremendous progress. We’re confident she’s ready to move forward with the next phase of her care.”
As MLB.com notes, Ms. Carpenter has been transferred to a rehabilitation facility.
