Live updates: Best of Friday night's MLB action
The hottest team in baseball right now? That would be the Blue Jays, who have won eight straight games by beating up on opposing pitching staffs. They’ve outscored their opponents 57-21 during the eight games, which means their average margin of victory is 4.5 runs.
Toronto leads baseball with 325 runs scored, 50 more than any other team. Fifty! They’re averaging 0.67 runs per game more than the second highest scoring team, the Yankees. That’s what happens when you add Josh Donaldson and Russell Martin to Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion, nevermind the insanely hot Chris Colabello.
The Blue Jays did have a nine-game winning streak early last season, but went only 51-57 after that. Whenever this current streak inevitably comes to the end, the key will be preventing it from becoming a losing streak, and instead getting right back up on the horse and starting a new winning streak.
The Jays will look to extend their winning streak to nine straight games Friday night against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. They’re three games back of the Yankees in the wide-open AL East at the moment.
