Florida State offers 14-year-old, 300-pound D-tackle
As Jimbo Fisher’s football camp came to an end on Friday, the Florida State head coach couldn’t let one particular prospect leave campus without a scholarship offer.
That prospect is Tru Thompson, a 14-year-old, 6-foot, 300-pound defensive tackle from Griffin, Ga.
According to Warchant.com, Thompson, a member of the class of 2019, wears size 18 shoes and ran the 40-yard dash in 5.1 seconds. Thompson grew up a Florida State, so he was very excited about the offer – his first.
“Coach Fisher offered me a scholarship today and I’m thinking about it right now. I was like ‘me, he’s offering me.’ It was very exciting. This is my first time ever coming to a college camp,” Thompson told Warchant.com.
“Coach Fisher also talked about how athletic I was during the camp. It’s a great school and a lot of success came out of here so I’ve always liked them. I know Odell Haggins is also a great coach and one of the best defensive line coaches. Also, I want to major in business and they have a good program. So when I heard about that I said ‘alright that’s pretty good.'”
Thompson has a long way to go in the recruiting process, but receiving an offer from one of the best programs in the country is certainly a good start – especially when he hasn’t even started high school yet.
