It’s hard to remember a time when the Kings were actually a respectable personality, but years ago, at the start of the century, they were winning games as one of the most competitive teams in the Western Conference. Oh, how times have changed.

So, let’s look back to the golden years, to some of the best teams and see how the Kings actually put together those squads. Who are the Kings five best draft picks of all time? Russell Preston at CBS Sacramento gives his:

5. Peja Stojakovic (Round 1, Pick 14 of 1996 Draft)

Fan-favorite Stojakovic was a terrific King. He owns the franchise record for most three pointers made in a season (240) and he made three-straight all-star games as a King. Despite grabbing Sojakovic at No. 14, the Kings could have picked Steve Nash instead, who was still on the board at the time. Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, Ray Allen and Marcus Camby were also picked in the first round that year. Stacked.

4. Tiny Archibald (Round 2, Pick 19 of 1970 Draft)

A member of the Hall of Fame, Archibald was picked by the Kings late in the second round. That may seem like a late pick, but with the 1970 draft being 19 rounds comprised of 239 players, he was a top pick for the the Cincinnati Royals. Archibald had his best season with the Kings in 1972-73, putting up 34 points, 11.2 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game. He also made the all-star team three years as a King, and three more years later in his career as a part of the Celtics.
