Lawyer: Temple players accused of assault not disciplined by school
The lawyer for two Temple football players accused of assault said the school won’t be disciplining his clients.
Haason Reddick and Dion Dawkins were suspended from the team in March after they turned themselves in to police. The two were accused of assault in an alleged attack of a student at a January 17 party.
“There was a hearing [Monday] and the Temple Student Conduct Board found that Dion and Hasson were not responsible for the allegations lodged against them,” James Funt told the Philadelphia Inquirer. “They are free to go to school and class and engage in football activities.”
The two are facing multiple charges again after a Friday decision by a judge. In April, all of the charges (aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and conspiracy) were dropped against Reddick, a defensive lineman. All but the simple assault charge was dropped against Dawkins, a tackle.
The charges were dropped because of insufficient evidence. However, the Inquirer reported Common Pleas Judge Michael Erdos reversed the decision.
The alleged victim in the attack testified that he saw a friend being stomped on. He said he was also stomped on and was kicked in the right eye and suffered a fractured orbital bone.
Reddick had 25 tackles in 2014 while Dawkins was the team’s starting left tackle. Funt told the Inquirer that any trial in the case wouldn’t begin until 2016.
