Jack Nicklaus is a big Mark Wahlberg fan, so he’ll see ‘Entourage’
No offense to Jack Nicklaus, but he’s not the kind of guy that comes to mind when I think of people who would buy a ticket to go see “Entourage.” He’s not bro enough, bro.
However, the Golden Bear fully intends on seeing the big-screen adaptation of the cult HBO series. Why? Nicklaus and “Entourage” executive producer and loose muse Mark Wahlberg just happen to be good buddies. The 18-time major winner explained the relationship on Sunday morning at his Memorial Tournament in Ohio.
During his traditional last-day news conference at Muirfield Village, Nicklaus was sipping on AquaHydrate9 water when AP reporter Doug Ferguson unintentionally asked a question with the series title in it. Nicklaus used the reference to change the topic to Wahlberg, who owns most of the company behind the water Nicklaus was sipping. Nicklaus had a piece of it, too. The company donates to Nicklaus’ foundation each year.
“[Mark] called last week and said ‘How are we going to take this thing to the next level?’ I thought it was a nice call. I’m a big fan,” Nicklaus said.
The natural follow-up, asked by writer Geoff Shackelford, was if Nicklaus would go see the film.
“Sure I’m going to go see it. Absolutely,” Nicklaus said. “I like all of [Wahlberg’s] movies. They’re a bit of a shoot up (laughter). But he does a great job.”
So, there ya go. But something tells me a Perry Farrell reference might not have resonated the same.
