Apple will pay Indians bullpen its ransom for Brandon Moss home-run ball
Apple held its much-anticipated Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday and announced, among other things, a new subscription music service and a smarter iOS9. Co-starring in CEO Tim Cook’s keynote address — surprisingly — were the relief pitchers of the Cleveland Indians.

Last week, in one of the funnier moments of the baseball season, the Indians bullpen retrieved teammate Brandon Moss’ 100th home-run ball and held it for ransom. In return, they asked for a long list of Apple products, including Apple Watches, iPad, laptops, etc.
During Monday’s address Cook not only showed the Indians’ ransom note as a point of brand pride, he then produced the ball and announced that Apple had paid the ransom.
Lest you think Apple just found any ol’ baseball to hold up, Zack Meisel over at Cleveland.com says the Indians sent the ball to California on Sunday so it could be used in the WWDC announcement.
You’ll notice the only non-Apple product on the list is the “50 gallon drum of lube,” which Apple Photoshopped out of the ransom note for Cook’s address. We’re fairly certain that pitcher Mark Rzepczynski won’t be getting that in a fancy Apple box.
But he can buy his own for about $1,200 on Amazon. Surprisingly expensive, huh? Would you rather have that or an Apple Watch for each wrist?
