Warriors’ Marreese Speights misses fast-break dunk, gets sat on by ref
The third quarter of Game 2 of the 2015 NBA Finals was an absolute rock-fight, with the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers combining for just 29 points on 9-for-37 shooting. What’s the perfect way to cap such a vomitous 12-minute stretch of offensive basketball?
Ladies and gentlemen, Marreese Speights:

After Draymond Green stole the ball from Cavaliers point guard Matthew Dellavedova, starting in place of the injured Kyrie Irving, the Warriors pushed the ball down the court. Andre Iguodala, one of the stars of the Warriors’ Game 1 win, gave it up early to Marreese Speights, who returned in Game 1 after missing Golden State’s previous eight games with a calf strain. The 6-foot-10, 245-pound big man did a lot more dribbling and a lot more counting his steps than he’s accustomed to, and the end result was … well, a play to forget for the eight-year veteran.
Cleveland attempted to use the remaining time to answer before the end of the frame, and the Warriors hustled to prevent any compounding of Speights’ late-stanza sin. In his haste, Speights wound up careening to the ground off on the far sideline, which wound up being the worst seat in the house:

That is, um, not the way you want to end the quarter.
That was a hell of a sequence by my bro Mo Speights lol

And for the Warriors as well, who missed an opportunity to cut Cleveland’s lead down to a single point, and instead wound up heading into the fourth quarter down by three. There thankfully weren’t any injuries, so I suppose we’ll have to call Speights’ play in relation to the Warriors’ game state adding insult to another, larger insult.
