PARIS, June 7 (Reuters) – British champion Peter Kennaugh of Team Sky won the first stage of the Criterium du Dauphine, a week-long warm-up race for the Tour de France, on Sunday. Kennaugh attacked a group of breakaway riders with two kilometres left and held off the speeding peloton to prevail after 131.5km between Ugine and Albertville. Italian Sacha Modolo of the Lampre team took second place when he won the peloton sprint ahead of Norway’s Edvald Boasson Hagen (MTN-Qhubeka). Kennaugh is the overall race leader.
