According to a report by the Associated Press, Tennessee athletic department spokesman Jason Yellin was asked if there were any circumstances under which Williams could return, Yellin reiterated that, “We’ve moved on.”
Williams is not listed on the Vols roster, but the athletic department would not say whether he’d been permanently kicked off the team.
Williams and former Tennessee linebacker A.J. Johnson were suspended in November, a day before police named them suspects in the rape of a 19-year-old female student. The victim alleged she was assaulted at approximately 1:45 a.m. during a party at Johnson’s apartment. Johnson also was accused of sexually assaulting another woman during the same incident, but the second woman told police she would not be pursuing charges.
Johnson graduated and Williams was entering his junior season. Williams started five games and made 23 tackles for the Vols in 2014.
