Brewers’ Scooter Gennett helps stray dog at spring training
On Thursday, Milwaukee Brewers infielder Scooter Gennett was going about his business after the Milwaukee Brewers wrapped up workouts at their spring complex in Maryvale, Ariz. when he discovered a stray dachshund wondering the area. According to Gennett via his Twitter account, he was able to make friends with the dog, or at least made him comfortable enough to ride along to the local vet, and that’s where Gennett says the the dog will be cared for.
If the story sounds familiar, that’s because it is familiar.
As Gennett referenced, the Brewers took in a stray dog at spring training last season and renamed him Hank. It would quickly become the story of the spring in baseball as Hank stole the hearts of Brewers employees and stole headlines on social media after being accepted into the Brewers family.
But the legend didn’t end there. Hank went on to become the Brewers newest mascot, and was even named Dog of the Year at the World Dog awards. That’s rock star status for sure, but for a short time on Thursday night, even Hank — who for the purpose of this story we’re going to assume check Twitter frequently — had to be wondering if there was room enough for another ballpark pup in Milwaukee.
Or maybe not.
The dress, Hank? Really?
Regardless, it appears he has nothing to worry about. As Gennett noted, the stray he helped will be taken care of by Dachshund Only Rescue, and will hopefully find a new home in Arizona soon.
You’re still the top dog in Milwaukee, Hank, but the kindess displayed by Scooter Gennett further proves that you picked the right camp and the right family to join last February.
