Charges dismissed against Carolina Panthers’ Greg Hardy
The state has dismissed all charges against Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy.
Hardy was convicted last year for assaulting and threatening to kill ex-girlfriend Nicole Holder, but Hardy’s appeal — which was set to start Monday — was settled when she refused to work with prosecutors. The district attorney told the judge in the case that officials’ attempts to reach Holder were unsuccessful.
The DA said Hardy reached a civil suit agreement with Holder. Hardy and his attorney left the courthouse without making a statement or answering questions.
Hardy, 26, played only one game for the Panthers in 2014 after being placed on the commissioner’s exempt list. It appears the team, despite the dismissal, will move on from Hardy, who is a free agent after playing last season on the franchise tag for $13.1 million.
Still some team is likely to show strong interest for one of the league’s top pass rushers available this offseason, despite his troubles.
The NFL has yet to complete its review of the case and still could opt to suspend Hardy for six games — the new standard for domestic abuse cases in the league — if it chooses. But Hardy’s future in the NFL looks a lot brighter now than it did before court on Monday.
