Pelicans’ Davis falls after dunk, hurts shoulder

NEW ORLEANS — Pelicans All-Star Anthony Davis hurt his right shoulder on a hard fall in which he struggled to brace himself after an alley-oop dunk late in the first half Saturday night, and he will not return to the game.
The team said X-rays were negative, and Anthony was diagnosed with a right shoulder contusion.
The Pelicans were in transition and Davis was running hard as guard Tyreke Evans floated a lob toward the hoop. With Chicago’s Tony Snell trailing closely, Davis converted a soaring two-handed dunk, but momentum caused his body to swing like a pendulum as he grabbed the rim. He then fell horizontally as he lost his grip, landing on his right side.
After remaining prone for about a minute, Davis got up and briefly tried to keep playing before taking himself out.
Davis’ exit came one night after his buzzer-beating 3-pointer pushed the Pelicans past the Oklahoma City Thunder, 116-113.
