Montgomery Biscuits unveil Marty McFly ensemble jersey
It’s still early, but the competition for best minor league promotion and/or custom uniform is already reaching a fever pitch.
After the Brooklyn Cyclones raised the bar this week by announcing “Saved by The Bell” night, which really couldn’t have been timed any better following the early 90s’ cult classic’s reunion on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon, the Montgomery Biscuits — Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays — have announced “Back to the Future” night for June 27, featuring perhaps the sweetest jersey in this or any other era.
Ladies and gentlemen, behold the Marty McFly classic ensemble.
From the burnt orange vest to the white-checkered shirt and denim jacket, this jersey is a spot on replica of the ensemble Michael J. Fox’s character wore in the first “Back to the Future” film, which premiered on July 3, 1985.

Of course, as anybody who’s familiar with the films or follows baseball with any regularity knows, it’s the second installment of the outstanding trilogy that features the strongest ties to baseball. In that film, it’s predicted that the Chicago Cubs will win the 2015 World Series, and that will no doubt be a running storyline all season long. In fact, it’s also the subejct on another minor league promotion being run by the Joliet Slammers of independent league.
However, the Biscuits’ promotion goes beyond ties to our grand game or simply honoring a great film. It’s also about helping those who are currently battling or will be faced with Parkinson’s disease.
According to the team’s press release, replica Marty McFly jerseys will be auctioned off during the game, with proceeds benefiting the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research.
What a wonderful idea and well thought out promotion this is on every level. Any time you can mix fun, nostalgia and a new collector’s item with raising funds and awareness for a great cause, you’ve hit a marketing home run. Considering this is the first custom jersey they’ve debuted in 12 years, we might even call it a grand slam.
Well done, Biscuits. You’re the leader in the clubhouse for now.
