WWE SummerSlam 2016: Matches, card, start time, date, how to watch, live stream

WWE will present SummerSlam on Sunday, Aug. 21 from Brooklyn, New York, and the company’s second-biggest pay-per-view of the year includes a number of headline matches that should make for a great show.

The entire thing kicks off at 5 p.m. ET as WWE presents a two-hour kickoff show prior to the event itself. SummerSlam will begin at 7 p.m. ET and run for four hours. WWE needs that long of a show considering the card it has put together, which includes every single championship being defended and none of those matches looking like they will be the show’s main event.

Sami Zayn & Neville vs. The Dudley Boyz

Carmella, Becky Lynch & Naomi vs. Natalya, Alexa Bliss & TBA
– Eva Marie was supposed to be the sixth woman in the SmackDown brand match, but a 30-day wellness policy suspension leaves an open spot.

Cesaro vs. Sheamus
– Raw general manager Mick Foley announced this will be the first match in a best-of-seven series that will presumably conclude in the next two months.

Intercontinental Championship: The Miz (c) vs. Apollo Crews
– The Miz has held the title for more than four months since the day after WrestleMania. Crews debuted on the main WWE roster that same night. [Picks & Predictions]

Enzo Amore & Big Cass vs. Chris Jericho & Kevin Owens

Tag Team Championship: The New Day (c) vs. Gallows & Anderson
– Most of New Day’s title defenses have included Big E, the largest member of the group, who is injured in a storyline and not expected to participate in the match. [Picks & Predictions]

Women’s Championship: Sasha Banks (c) vs. Charlotte
– Banks won the title one month ago and is currently the most popular female performer in the company. [Picks & Predictions]

United States Championship: Rusev (c) vs. Roman Reigns
– In the middle of having his character rebuilt as a strong heel, Rusev takes on Reigns, who failed to get over with fans as a babyface main-event performer. [Picks & Predictions]

John Cena vs. AJ Styles
– Cena and Styles have put together a couple of great matches already, and this should be the culmination of this portion of their long-running feud. [Picks & Predictions]

World Heavyweight Championship: Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler
– Ziggler, who had been relegated to midcard status by WWE for far too long, is Ambrose’s first SmackDown challenger for the title. Whether he gets the boost to take over as champion is certainly a question. [Picks & Predictions]

Universal Championship: Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor
– WWE has introduced the Universal Championship as the heavyweight title for the Raw brand. It is currently vacant and Rollins, a former world heavyweight champion, and Balor, who debuted on the main roster last month following the WWE Draft, will be going head-to-head for the strap. Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton
– The first match announced on the SummerSlam card, Lesnar enters it with some controversy coming off a positive doping test following his surprising return to UFC. As he is a part-time performer in WWE, he suffered no punishment from the company. Orton is also participating in his first feature match since missing most of a year with a serious injury.
