Tyler Holt creates new dance move while sliding past Ichiro's triple
The world of sports is full of dancing. Football players dance when they score a touchdown. At the Olympics, several wrestlers and weightlifters have danced when they won, and even horses have danced. But how about a dance move that was created during a play? Tyler Holt of the Cincinnati Reds may have invented one.
In the ninth inning of Tuesday night’s Miami Marlins-Cincinnati Reds game, Ichiro Suzuki did what he does best: hit the baseball. He hit it to right field, and Reds right fielder Tyler Holt was there to pick it up. Well, he was almost there. And then he was there. And then he wasn’t there.
Yup, he slid in so fast to get the ball that he couldn’t stop himself in time and went right past it. The ball kept on rolling away, so Holt had to stop the slide, get up, and run in the opposite direction. When that slide is on a loop, like in the gif above, it looks like a dance move. It could be a forgotten part of the electric slide that was eliminated because people kept hurting themselves. Or a special disco move that you can only do on a freshly waxed floor.
But maybe that’s not giving Tyler Holt’s creativity enough credit. What he did is like no other dance move, so it should be called The Holt! Everybody, do The Holt! Wait, don’t do The Holt if you have a rug, because that would be painful.

Even though Ichiro ended up on third, there was a chance that the hit (his first at Great American Ballpark) could have been ruled a double with an error. The official scorer declined to call Holt’s amazing new dance move an error, so Ichiro was credited with a triple. And it’s only a matter of time before The Holt catches on nationwide! Right!? (Okay, probably not.)
