The Indianapolis Colts and the Baltimore Ravens face off on Saturday in Week 2 NFL preseason action.
The Indianapolis Colts overcame a horrific start to bounce back and beat the Buffalo Bills in week one of the preseason. Like the Ravens, few of the prominent starters saw the field in week one. With Andrew Luck sitting the Colts started Scott Tolzien at QB but he completed just 52.2 percent of his passes with a touchdown while Stephen Morris completed 55.6 percent of his passes with a touchdown. The running game was non-existent for the Colts with no back averaging even a yard per carry with Josh Ferguson at 0.4, Trey Williams at 0.7, and Robert Turbin at 0.5. Tevaun Smith led Indianapolis in receptions with three while Josh Boyce and Phillip Dorsett were among those receivers with two catches. The Colts defense allowed 18 points and 372 yards with two sacks but no turnovers. Edwin Jackson led the way for Indianapolis with 10 tackles and Lee Hightower and Curt Maggitt were among those with four tackles. While the Colts got the win in week one, they weren’t impressive doing so and will need to improve if they hope to be decent in the regular season.

The Baltimore Ravens started slow in their week one preseason game against the Carolina Panthers but they got it going quickly enough to get the lead and the win. The Ravens didn’t score until the second quarter as many first teamers didn’t play. Ravens QB Joe Flacco didn’t play so it was Ryan Mallett completing 73.3 percent of his passes with a touchdown and an interception and Josh Johnson completing 72.7 percent of his passes. Kenneth Dixon led the Baltimore rushing attack with 44 yards while Terrance West and Javorious Allen each had rough outings finding no running room though Allen caught a touchdown pass. Darren Walker and Jeremy Butler each had five catches to lead the Ravens with none of the top WR’s playing. Defensively the Ravens allowed 19 points and 282 yards with 3 sacks and a fumble recovery. Matt Judon led the Ravens defense with seven tackles including a sack, Kapron Lewis-Moore had five tackles, and C.J. Mosely was among those with four tackles. The Ravens don’t seem too concerned with preseason and more concerned with being healthy during the regular season.
Indianapolis is 25-10-1 against the spread in their last 10 home games, 4-1 against the spread on fieldtturf, and 9-1 against the spread in their last 10 games against Baltimore. Baltimore is 4-0 against the spread in their last four road games, 4-1 against the spread against the AFC, and 3-9-1 against the spread on fieldturf. The favorite has covered the point spread in six of the last seven meetings of these two teams.
I don’t like the way either of these teams look right now but it’s early and I see the Ravens having the better upside.
