The Tennessee Titans and the Carolina Panthers face off on Saturday in Nashville in a week 2 NFL preseason match up.
The Tennessee Titans had a rough 2015 but this season they have a ton of upside and look to be ready to move forward. The Titans offense looked solid in their week 1 win over the San Diego Chargers racking up 437 yards and 27 points. Titans starting QB Marcus Mariota was a perfect 5 for 5 passing in limited action while Matt Cassel and Alex Tanney each completed 60 percent of their passes. The Tennessee rushing attack looked strong as well with DeMarco Murray rushing for 93 yards including a 71-yard touchdown run and Derrick Henry rushing for 74 yards and a touchdown. Anfre Johnson had two receptions for the Titans as did Tajae Sharp, Rishard Matthews, and Phillip Supernaw. Defensively Tennesee allowed 10 points and 333 yards with two sacks, a fumble recovery, and two interceptions. Avery Williamson was the Titans leading tackler with 5 Deiontrez Mount had four tackles including a sack, and Nate Palmer and Justin Staples each had four tackles. The Titans definitely got better but it’s a matter of time until we find out how much better they actually are this season.

The Carolina Panthers are looking to get back to the Super Bowl and get the franchises first Championship but they started their preseason campaign with a loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The Panthers offense scored 19 points and gained 282 yards with the starters playing sparingly. Carolina QB Cam Newton completed 5 of his 6 passes for 36 yards while Derek Anderson completed 50 percent of his passes with a touchdown and Joe Webb completed 56.3 percent of his passes and was sacked twice. Brandon Wegher carried the ball a team high 10 times for the Panthers but he gained just 13 yards and Cameron Artis-Payne was unimpressive gaining 10 yards on 5 carries. Brenton Bersin led Carolina with 5 receptions, Greg Olsen had two catches and kelvin Benjamin had one catch in his return to the playing field after missing last season with injuries. The Panthers defense allowed 22 points and 288 yards with 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 interception. David Mayo led the Panthers with 8 tackles, Colin Jones had 6 tackles, and Thomas Davis had a tackle in limited action. The Panthers are clearly playing for something bigger so it is hard for them to be inspired in preseason and for players trying to make this roster they will have their work cut out for them.
Tennessee is 16-33-3 against the spread in their last 52 home games, 15-35-4 against the spread in their last 54 games, and 15-34-5 against the spread on grass. Carolina is 11-5 against the spread in their last 16 games, 0-4 against the spread in their last four road games, and 7-1 against the spread on grass. The road team has covered the point spread in four of the last five meetings of these two teams.
The titans just have a lot more to play for here so on the motivation angle alone they are the choice.
