London (AFP) – France international goalkeeper Hugo Lloris could miss Spurs’ opening Champions League group match as the Premier League club revealed Tuesday he has a hamstring injury which might sideline him for up to a month.
The 29-year-old — who captained hosts France to the heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Portugal in the Euro 2016 final in July — suffered the injury in their opening 1-1 draw with Everton last Saturday.
“Following further assessment and scans of the left hamstring injury sustained by Hugo Lloris in the 1-1 draw at Everton on Saturday, we can confirm he is expected to be out of action for around four weeks,” read a statement from the club.
Lloris, outstanding last season as Spurs challenged for the title before cracking in the final weeks of the season and ending up edged out by bitter rivals Arsenal for runners-up spot, looks set to miss the league games against Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Stoke.
Spurs open their Champions League campaign on either September 13th or 14th — the draw for the group stages yet to be held as the qualifying round for the final places on offer begin this week with the first legs.
