Cuban top seed and 2012 bantamweight bronze medallist Lazaro Alvarez, beaten by the Brazilian in the semi-finals, and Mongolia’s Otgondalai Dorjnyambuu won bronze. Conceicao, from Salvador in the northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia, was on top from the opening bell, his every punch met with roars of approval from a soccer-style crowd that dwarfed the meagre turnout for Monday’s heavyweight final.
