Dorell Wright absolutely hammers dunk on JaVale McGee at Drew League
Over the years, Dorell Wright has taken his game from inside out, going from an athletic preps-to-pros jumping-jack to a floor-spacing shooter who has taken more than half of his shots from behind the 3-point line since 2009. Don’t get it twisted, though: just because the 30-year-old swingman has maintained NBA employment largely by casting away from deep, that doesn’t mean Wright can’t still rise above the rim.
Just ask JaVale McGee, shot-swatter extraordinaire and the newest addition to the Golden State Warriors, who had a less-than-pleasant meeting with the former Dubs, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers and Portland Trail Blazers wing at the summit during a playoff game at legendary Los Angeles semi-pro fixture the Drew League this past weekend:

As impressive as the slash and throwdown was, though, McGee got the last laugh, as he poured in 27 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead his #Juglife squad — oh, man, remember #Juglife? — past Wright’s Scrapes & Gravel, 91-80, in the second round of the 2016 Drew League playoffs. McGee had plenty of help along the way, with guard Sek Henry chipping in 27 points, five rebounds and five assists, and JaVale’s former Washington Wizards teammate Nick Young adding 21 points and nine rebounds in the win. #Juglife now moves on to face top-seeded Redemption for the chance to advance to the championship game and play for the Drew League title.
Wright spent most of last season playing in China for the Beikong Fly Dragons, but returned to the U.S. to join the Heat for the postseason, scoring 16 points in 19 total minutes spread over five short-stint appearances. Whether he’ll get a look-see at an NBA training camp next month remains to be seen … but, from the looks of things, there’s still plenty of juice left in his legs.
