Madison Kocian wins silver, Gabby Douglas misses podium in uneven bars final
The U.S. gymnastics team took home more hardware during the 2016 Rio Olympics uneven bars finals on Saturday.
Madison Kocian won silver with a score of 15.833, slightly behind Russian Aliya Mustafina, who won gold with a 15.900. The bronze went to German Sophie Scheder, who earned a 15.566.
It was Mustafina’s second straight Olympic gold in the event, after taking home the title in London in 2012.
After earning a qualifying score 15.766 in qualifying, an error caused Gabby Douglas’ score to slip to 15.066 in the final, and she finished seventh.
It was Kocian’s only individual event of the Olympics, after earning gold in the team competition.
Earlier in the day, Simone Biles won the vault finals to become the first U.S. woman to win three gymnastics medals in the same Olympics.
The U.S. is expected to take home more gold in the beam and floor finals, on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
