It’s not hard to make Jerry Jones smile. A glass of Johnnie Walker Blue will take care of that. But if you want to see him grin, you need something involving the Cowboys, preferably with Tony Romo making a big play and leading a fourth-quarter comeback.

But Dak Prescott hooking up with Dez Bryant on a couple of beautiful plays, including the rookie’s first career touchdown pass, will do it in a pinch.

Prescott started for the Cowboys on Saturday in Los Angeles, and his first drive was impressive, with the Mississippi State product going 6 of 7 for 68 yards and a touchdown (the one drop wasn’t on him either, it was a flat-out drop). He owes some of the yardage to Bryant being a high-pointing freak of nature:

And he benefited nicely from Bryant catching the touchdown as well.

Bryant missed most of 2015 with a foot injury he suffered in the first game of the season. But the touchdown catch from Dez was a firm reminder about what a dangerous red-zone weapon he is when he’s fully healthy and playing his best. Bryant’s just a physical beast near the pylon and he should be motivated for another huge season.

Also worth noting is how important the backup quarterback position is for Dallas. With Kellen Moore out for the season, everyone’s been wondering when the Cowboys will sign a veteran to backup Tony Romo.

If Prescott spends the preseason lighting it up, it wouldn’t be surprising at all to see the Cowboys roll with him as the primary backup. It’s a bold plan but the very early indications for his performance are absolutely positive.
