Jonathan Lucroy keeps piling up homers with his new team by slugging two Friday
Needless to say, the Rangers trading for Jonathan Lucroy on trade deadline day is thus far working out pretty well. The Rangers had won five straight Lucroy starts heading into Friday’s game against the Tigers, and the run is in no small part due to Lucroy’s power surge at the plate. That home run stroke was again on display Friday.
First, he hit a three-run home run in the first inning:
His second time up? How about a two-run bomb, giving the Rangers a 6-1 lead:
Lucroy is an excellent hitter with good power, but he’s never been this much of a home run hitter. He was injured last season, but in 2013 he had 18 homers and came through with 13 in 2014. The 18 from ’13 were his career high, but the two shots on Friday gave him 19 in 2016. So he’s already set a career high and looks likely to far surpass his previous best mark.
Not only that, he’s on a streak right now unlike any previously in his career. In just 10 games for the Rangers, Lucroy has six home runs. He already has two multi-homer games. In 805 games with the Brewers, he had just six multi-homer games.
Remember when we called the Rangers winners in the aftermath of the trade deadline? Thus far, August has been working out pretty well for general manager Jon Daniels and his troops.
