Oregon coach Mark Helfrich invites Larry David to join coaching staff (Video)
Larry David knows comedy, but does he know football?
He thinks he does.
The creator and star of HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm (and co-creator of some show called Seinfeld) said this week during an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show that he believes he could be an offensive coordinator, particularly for his beloved New York Jets. David said he would need a year of shadowing a current OC to prepare for the role.

“I’m positive I could be an offensive coordinator. All I have to do is, I think if I just studied, if I just hung around and learned a little bit … give me one season shadowing an offensive coordinator and I know I could do it,” David said.
Well, now he’s got an offer at the collegiate level… sort of.
Oregon coach Mark Helfrich told reporters Thursday that David has an open invitation to shadow Ducks coordinator Matt Lubick. He even has a place to crash in Eugene if he needs it.

David, who is preparing to film the ninth season of Curb, thinks his creative mind could translate to one thing in particular: play design.
“What could be so hard about it? You make up plays. Why is that so hard? I’m creative… in certain respects. I think I could do that. I think I can,” David said. “If an offensive coordinator out there on any team allows me to shadow him for a year, I know I could do the job.”

This needs to happen, but if David wants to coach at the college level he needs to form a bond with the team. We know he’s no fan of small talk; the stop and chat is a crucial portion to any pre-game or pre-practice stretch.
If David can master that, things could be pretty, pretty good.
