Georgia Tech athletic director leaving to take same position at Purdue in July
Georgia Tech athletic director Mike Bobinski is leaving the ACC school to take the same job at Purdue, a source confirmed to CBS Sports early Tuesday.
Bobinski will replace Morgan Burke.
Burke is scheduled to retire in July 2017.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported early Tuesday that Purdue is expected to announce Bobinski’s hiring soon. Bobinski has been at Georgia Tech since January 2013. He fired men’s basketball coach Brian Gregory in March and replaced him with Josh Pastner in April.
Bobinski is mostly known as a “basketball guy” in industry circles. The Notre Dame graduate was formerly the athletic director at Xavier — where he hired Thad Matta (2001), Sean Miller (2004) and Chris Mack (2009). Bobinski was the chair of the NCAA Division I men’s basketball committee for the 2012-13 season.
