WATCH: Cubs keep getting stronger as Jorge Soler homers in first at-bat back
On Friday, the Cubs activated Jorge Soler from the disabled list, some two months after he strained his hamstring. Soler might’ve taken time to heal, but he didn’t take long upon his return to make an impact.
Here’s the result of Soler’s first at-bat back (hint: it’s a home run off Athletics lefty Dillon Overton):
While Soler’s seasonal numbers are nothing special — he entered Friday batting .223/.322/.377 — everyone knows he’s better than that line suggests. As such, it’s hard to view his rejoining the Cubs as a bad thing. At absolute worst, Soler gives Joe Maddon yet another piece to mix-and-match with — and one who has a tall, middle-of-the-order ceiling should he begin to figure things out.
Must be nice to have a player like that and have him not considered essential, huh?
