Rookies Thon Maker, Malcom Brogdon sign deals – Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Milwaukee Bucks rookies Thon Maker and Malcolm Brogdon have signed contracts, the team announced Saturday.
The 7-foot-1 Maker, the 10th overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft, is expected to make around $2.6 million as his slotted salary in the first year of his four-year rookie scale deal. The total of the four-year contract is $11.6 million.
First-round picks have two guaranteed years of salary and NBA teams hold options on the third and fourth years of rookie-scale contracts. Rookies normally receive contracts at 120% of scale.
Maker, 19, played two years at a prep school in Ontario before being ruled eligible for the June draft. He grew up in Australia after moving at age 8 with his family from his native South Sudan.
Maker, playing at power forward, made a strong impression in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas earlier this month. He was named to the all-summer league second team after averaging 14.2 points and 9.6 rebounds per game in five games. He showed excellent mobility and speed for a big man and grabbed 17 rebounds in one game.
The 6-5 Brogdon played four years of college basketball at Virginia under coach Tony Bennett and was named the Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year as a fifth-year senior. He was the 36th overall pick in the draft.
A 23-year-old native of Atlanta, Brogdon was a unanimous first team All-American during the past season and also was named ACC defensive player of the year for a second straight year.
In five summer league games, Brogdon averaged 10.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists. Brogdon also was one of 25 players chosen — along with Bucks teammate Jabari Parker — as part of the USA Men’s Select team that practiced with the U.S. Olympic team during its training camp in Las Vegas.
Terms of Brogdon’s contract were not disclosed.
The Bucks have 13 players under contract, leaving two spots remaining. NBA teams can carry a maximum of 15 players on the regular-season roster.
