Ohio State ranked at the top of Preseason Amway Coaches Poll
The first official poll of the college football season has been released and there are very little surprises at the top of the heap.
Ohio State received 62 of 64 first-place votes in the Amway Coaches Poll, which is presented by USA Today. TCU, Alabama, Baylor and Oregon rounded out the top five.
That group of teams was the same that jockeyed for position in the inaugural College Football Playoff a year ago. The only team missing was Florida State, which is ranked No. 8.
The SEC leads the poll with eight teams, including three in the top 10. The Pac-12, which could be looking at its best overall season in some time, had six teams in the poll. Boise State is the only Power Five team, ranking No. 24 between Missouri and Tennessee.
While this poll is interesting, it’s nothing more than a talking point. The Amway Coaches Poll no longer plays a role in determining the national champion, but it does give a good guideline to start the season.
The Associated Press Poll, another poll that is a talking point, will be released Aug. 23.
