Heyman: Jays make big splash, land David Price
Left-hander David Price is heading from Detroit to Toronto, sources say.
Blue Jays pitching prospect Daniel Norris, along with minor-league left-handers Jairo Labourt and reportedly Matt Boyd are heading to the Tigers, who liked Toronto’s young pitchers all along.
The Dodgers, Giants and Yankees also showed strong interest in Price, but Detroit liked this match best.
CBSSports.com first reported a deal was getting close.
Price is the big fish, and the Blue Jays are the big winner of this non-waiver trading deadline. Only a couple days after landing star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, they come away with the top pitcher on the market.
Price is a free agent after the year, so the fact this is a rental limits the value. The Blue Jays would be hard-pressed to re-sign Price, who is expected to have the Yankees, Dodgers and Cubs pursuing him over the winter.
Toronto has been working hard to add a pitcher. The addition of Price, one of the best pitchers in the majors, is a huge get.
