Heyman: Tigers listening on Price
The Tigers have changed course and suggested to teams they will at least listen on players in a prelude to a potential sale.
If they do wind up selling, this could drastically alter the market, as ace pitcher David Price would immediately become the best pitcher available. Yoenis Cespedes is another interesting piece, a corner outfielder who can slug, but Price is the real market changer.
Price’s availability could alter the landscape of the Cole Hamels derby, with all the teams involved in Hamels other than Texas potentially being interested in Price. The Dodgers, with team president Andrew Friedman close to Price from their days together in Tampa, and the wherewithal to do what they need, would be interested and seem like a favorite should he be moved. But the Giants, Blue Jays, Astros, Yankees could also be involved.
Tigers people had been suggesting they wouldn’t sell, but even after their victory Wednesday over the Rays, they are 38-50 since their quick start and 49-52 overall, four games back in the wild card.
David Price could potentially be a market-changing player. (USATSI)
