Adebayor undergoes Villa medical – sources
Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor is set to join Aston Villa after undergoing a medical at the club’s training ground, sources have told ESPN FC.
ESPN FC reported on Monday that Villa were confident of securing a move for Adebayor with both clubs in advanced talks over a loan deal.
Tottenham are willing to let Adebayor leave with the Togo international not figuring in Mauricio Pochettino’s long-term plans at White Hart Lane.
Adebayor was not included in Tottenham’s squad for their preseason tour of the U.S. so that he could resolve his future.
The former Arsenal and Manchester City man has been at Villa’s training ground on Tuesday for talks and a medical and if all goes well he is set to move to Villa on a season-long loan.
Villa boss Tim Sherwood is a huge fan of Adebayor having worked with the striker during his time in charge of Tottenham and he sees the player as an ideal replacement for Christian Benteke following the Belgian’s move to Liverpool.
Under Sherwood in the second half of the 2013-14 campaign Adebayor scored 14 goals in 24 appearances, but he has struggled to win favour with Pochettino since the Argentine’s arrival at White Hart Lane last summer.
Should Adebayor seal his move to Villa he will become the club’s eighth signing of the summer, following Scott Sinclair, Micah Richards, Mark Bunn, Jordan Amavi, Idrissa Gueye, Jordan Ayew and Jose Angel Crespo.
