Report: 2 Florida players cited for not paying for food
Two Florida players have been cited for leaving a bowling alley without paying for their food.
The citations against RB Adam Lane and DT Caleb Brantley were first reported by In All Kinds of Weather.
Brantley, Lane and a few other people walked into Splitz Bowling Alley in Gainesville just before 9:00pm on July 4th. The two left 45 minutes later without paying their respective tabs. Brantley’s was for $42.34, while Lane’s was for $16.93. The rest of the group accumulated the remainder of the ~$90 tab.
Both have been cited for “Fraud Swindle: Defraud Innkeeper under $300” per the court records on the Alachua County (Fla.) Court site. Here’s the listing for Brantley and here is the listing for Lane. The charge is a second degree misdemeanor. Lane’s charges were entered on July 20 while Brantley’s were filed on July 22nd.
Brantley played in all 12 of Florida’s games in 2014 and had 21 tackles as a redshirt freshman. Lane had a breakout performance in the Birmingham Bowl against East Carolina. However, his game is more remembered for an incident that required a change of pants after he scored a touchdown.
The allegations are similar to the incident involving then-Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston in 2014. Winston was cited for not paying for crab legs and crawfish at a Tallahassee Publix. The incident happened in the spring and Winston was suspended from the baseball team and performed community service as part of his citation at a local YMCA.
No potential discipline for the two players has been announced by Florida. Given the degree of the charges, it likely won’t be too harsh.
