Report: DeVonte Fields cleared academically to play at Louisville
DeVonte Fields has been academically cleared to play at Louisville.
Cardinals head coach Bobby Petrino said earlier this week that the TCU transfer was taking summer classes and hadn’t been given the go-ahead to participate in fall camp. Now, according to ESPN.com, everything is good to go and Fields will enroll on Aug. 4 – two days before practice begins.
Fields was the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year at TCU in 2012 when he put up 53 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks as a true freshman.
He missed the majority of the 2013 with injury and was later dismissed from TCU due to legal issues. Fields was charged with assault last July for allegedly hitting and pointing a gun at his ex-girlfriend. Fields completed an anger management course and the charge was dropped.
The 6-foot-4, 250-pound Fields played at Trinity Valley Community College in 2014 and registered 61 tackles and 6.5 sacks. He then signed a letter of intent to play his final two seasons of college ball at Louisville.
